Planned at least a month in advance, the activities calendar fills quickly.

For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, regular Aqua fitness classes are held in the 20 metre indoor heated swimming pool. Popular exercise and Tai Chi classes focus on helping residents to maintain their muscle strength and tone. For more serious exercisers the gym, with its own treadmill, exercycles, rowing machine and weights is enhanced by the welcome relief of a soothing soak in the spa pool or a relaxing sauna.

The ever popular indoor bowls with its raised bowling mat is complemented by a 3 rink full length outdoor bowling green for the more serious competitors. A full-sized billiard table and the table tennis table proved the platform for many in-house competitions.

Residents and their families take advantage of the 9 hole mini-golf course. The full size tennis court, croquet lawn, petanque rink also provide the perfect venues for friendly (and sometimes competitive!) get togethers.

Life at Chatsford can be as busy as Residents choose. Chatsford’s grounds provide a restful tranquillity, with pleasant walkways amidst carefully-tended grounds.

Each week a social walking group takes the Courtesy Coach to new and stimulating destinations with walks that require varying degrees of fitness.

For the days that are not so nice to be outside, the internet suite and the library provide a restful haven. The library is well stocked with a wide variety of current, challenging jigsaw puzzles, topical DVD’s, Videos, and CD’s. A child-friendly activities and books section is a lifesaver for the grandchildren’s entertainment when they come to stay during the school holidays.

Chatsford’s private chapel provides the opportunity for quiet reflective time while the aviary, outdoor chess area and solarium gather some of nature’s gentler energy.

The hobby/craft room is a magnet for the well of creative talent in the community. The craft group pursue activities ranging from patchwork and scrap-booking to cross stitch and tatting. The card-making group showcases another form of creative talent.

Regular social activities at Chatsford included the every popular happy hours each Friday at 4:30pm where friends and family gather together to enjoy a drink at the end of the week.

The travel group provides a popular platform for residents to share their travel photographs, anecdotes and experiences with each other.

Chatsford’s church services and Mass, and regular choral group provide a welcome spiritual and musical focus. Musical groups help to keep resident’s hearts singing. Ukulele, guitar and banjo are among the musicians who join forces at times.

Good old favourite recreational treats such as cards and Mah Jong have a strong following and for those who enjoy a flutter or a brain teaser bingo and quiz afternoons fit the bill.

Flower shows are a perennial favourite and generate much friendly competition.

Residents who seek mental stimulation are fulfilled by the challenges presented by The University of the 3rd Age which proves the adage ‘you are never too old to learn!’ The Mosgiel Branch of the University of the 3rd Age has a capped membership of 120 and regularly meets at Chatsford. Senior Net are regular visitors to Chatsford, helping residents to keep up to date with any new technological computer challenges that come their way.
